Leander
An old sickly ancient druid who suffers from bouts of senile behavior. In addition, he often has long conversations with twigs, earth worms, insects, and stones. His best friend is a Leprechaun named Thomas O'Malley. The druid is capable of casting just about any druidic ritual or spell and wields a powerful staff that is topped with an acorn. He is at friendly terms with the party and very thankful to them for waking him from his slumber.
Leander's Revelations....
The Forgotten Tower of High Sorcery
Originally constructed by the wizards of high sorcery from Ansalon over five centuries ago, the tower was to be the conclaves first foray on the content of Taladas. The towers construction began the day three wizards dressed in red, white, and black robes appeared in the forest of Brighten Wood. Using a magical stone, the foreigners erected the tower with little concern for the ancient grove of life that occupied the area. Needless to say; the sylvan communities considered the tower to be an evil blight on the land and demanded nothing less than its destruction. For many the ancient grove was a sacred place and the construction of the tower was an act of war. Eventually after much debate and infighting it was decided that the wizards and the tower had to be removed before it could be completed. In a show of force, the forest communities surrounded the tower and threatened to lay siege. After much negotiation and intimation tactics the wizards conceded and promised to leave never to return again.
On the day the tower was to be dismantled, something tragic took place within its walls. A fierce battle of magic could be heard from within. Flashes of light, smoke, and fire erupted from the towers windows. A short moment later, the entire bottom half of the tower and a huge section of the earth suddenly vanished. The towers upper levels fell vertically into the earthen hole and the structure was completely buried.
The forest communities believed that the gods punished the wizards for their arrogance and departed the area.
Their suspicions were confirmed when two huge golden dragons appeared from the sky and landed on the remains of the tower. They began to frantically search the area and dig the earth. Eventually the dragons found what they were looking for. Witnesses say that the dragon uncovered an egg and the magical stone the wizards were using to construct the tower.
The good dragons greeted the forest communities and thanked them for their help. In exchange for the dragon egg and the stone of threes the dragons rewarded the sylvan communities with the books of prophesy.
The dragons took the stone and hide it some place in the heavens. Out of compassion for the forest communities the dragons left behind many books of prophesy. The books would help guide the forest communities for centuries and prepare them for the great destruction that was soon to befall the land. The dragons departed eggs and departed into the heavens with the stone of threes. The books were entrusted to the sages of greenwood.
The Tower is currently being magically reconstructed with the help magical book that Shivnar activated.
Shivnar the Dark
The wizard you encountered is known as Shivnar the Dark. He is a renegade wizard from Ansalon. Over 500 years ago, he was an illusive and powerful foe that was responsible for creating abominations of nature and other terrible horrors within Brighten Wood forest (now known as Dark Wood). He disappeared around the time the forgotten tower was destroyed. Many of his abominations remained in the forest. The Owlbear you defeated was one of his creations. After capturing it, we had it repurposed to guard our resting chamber.
The Stone of Threes
The stone was used to construct a tower of HS in Taladas in Brighten Wood over 500 years ago, but the tower was destroyed before it could be completed. A pair of Astral Dragons took the stone of threes into the heavens were they hid it in the clouds.
History (Bono)
As a team of wizards planted a stone of threes at a Tower site, they initiated a series of spells to raise the Tower's foundations from the bones of the earth and create a magical field where the Tower's surrounding forest would grow. These forests sprang into existence overnight, complete with their protective magical qualities. The buildings
Magical foundations were complete in a week. The process of creating the foundation and forest consumed the stone of threes.
With these two elements in place, the wizards completed the structure with a combination of physical labor and magical effort. However, it took decades to actually finish a Tower. The forest protected the wizards and their assistants while final construction proceeded. The wizards used only five of the seven stones of threes to create Towers. One stone fell into the hands of the dwarves of Thorbardin sometime between 2150 and 2000PC, when the dwarves stopped a group of wizards from building a Tower on their land. Only the dwarves' account of the dispute survived the Cataclysm, and then only in the form of a myth featuring exaggerated tales of dwarven heroism and prowess. Not even the dwarves know exactly what happened to the stone, but divinations cast during the kingpriest of Istar's siege on sorcery (which commenced in 19pc) revealed that the stone had been destroyed. The seventh stone was lost during the Cataclysm, and its whereabouts remain a mystery.
The Dark Tide
Leander knows little of the Dark Tide other than what the books of prophesy had revealed to him. The books stated that one day far in the distant future a dark army consisting of dragons, undead, draconians, and several creatures from the backwater glade would enter the forest and enslave the forest communities. They would destroy Brighten Wood and the surrounding region.
Leander’s Sleep
In response to the Dark Tide, Leander entered druid sleep along with a representative of each forest community. The plan was to one day awaken and prevent the destruction from happening.
Raising an Army
Leander has suggested that party aids in the uniting the forest community against the dark tide. To this end Leander has entrusted all the Dwarven crafted weapons to the party. He is hopeful that they will be able to gather the humans, elves, and many others together.
In total, there are 120 long swords, 200 spears, 100 short swords, 20 daggers, 30 crossbows, 250 bolts, 200 arrows, 5 lances (long spears), 50 shields. The weapons were all made of dwarven quality and were built to last.
The Weapons at Evergreen’s Lair
According to Leander, these weapons are gifs from the goddess Chislev and are under her protection. They are currently guarded by poison filled steel like vines. The books of prophesy say that one day the goddess would send heros against the Dark Tide and then release her wrath upon the land. Leander believes that you are those hero’s and claims that you wouldn’t have been summoned to the forest if it wasn’t the case. A potion of plant control, made form Shrieker spores, will need to be created to release the weapons.
The invisible arcane hourglass symbols on each party members necks.
Leander doesn’t’ know anything about the symbols, but he suggests that the books of prophesy might contain more information. You would have to seek out the Sages of Green wood (known now as Grim Wood)
Books of Prophesy
These books are gifts from two Astral Dragons to the sylvan folk of the region. They predict everything that has and will happen to the region. The books have been entrusted to the great sages of Grim Wood (known to Leander as Green Wood).
The Ghost of the Great Stag
Leander is surprised to hear about the stag and would like to see it for himself. He claims that something terrible must have happened to the creature for it to return from the dead and stalk the forest.
Gregor the Great Forester
Leander has never heard of him, but he is surprised to hear that he might have an ancestor. If he is famous and fights for the forest then he must be found. He might be able to help raise an army to defeat the Dark Tide.
Evergreen
Leander informed the group that evergreen is to play an important part in the restoration of the forest. He will become a focal point for the forest communities and help restore life to the forest. The herb Kayloe is needed to complete the potion that will cure his insanity and allow him to take root.
Bakali Enslavement
Leander told Zissren and Thrrdon that their people were most likely part of the dark tide as slaves or even willing participants no doubt deceived by magic.
